The British Columbia Stone, Sand & Gravel Association
is a not-for-profit association representing members comprised of
aggregate producers, suppliers, and associates throughout the province of British Columbia. The BCSSGA was registered
as an Association in 1988 as APABC - Aggregate Producers Association of BC. With a name change in 2012 to BCSSGA, the Association
has grown to be an important entity serving the people of British Columbia.
Our association works with governing bodies and seeks to ensure the
industry has an effective and lasting contribution to the economy and
to the building of British Columbia.
The aggregates industry has generally two sectors : construction aggregates and industrial aggregates. Construction aggregates is further divided into naturally occurring sand and gravels and crushed rock products. Industrial aggregates comprise rock and minerals such as lime, dolomite, and lava rock, among others.

The phrase Aggregates Build B.C. is understood when one realizes that aggregates make up 70 to 80 percent of the volume of concrete, and aggregates comprise approximately 95 percent of asphalt mixtures by mass (roadways - hot mix asphalt, cold mix asphalt, surface treatments). Thus, all roads, sidewalks, buildings, structures, and anything made from concrete, or asphalt requires aggregates. Learn more in our Education department and Aggregates section.
